FIND YOUR FITNESS LIFESTYLE

You’ve heard the podcast  with Maggie Mangiel, scrolled through enough #fitspo posts, and you have finally realized there is no better time than right now. You’re right, and I’m so excited for you! You know you want it. You know you can get it. And whether you know it or not, you have what it takes to go further than you can imagine.

Living a fit life

But actions speak louder than words, and you want to hit the ground running. But you haven’t learned how to walk. You need to know, “Where do I start?” And you’re in luck. This is the place for exactly that.

There are so many starting points, and you really could go with any of them. (Pick a muscle, a goal, a number on the scale…) But once you’ve made a decision, there are still elements of general fitness that need to be in place before you start seeing your dreams become your reality. I’ve been exactly where you are right now. Actually, I find myself wondering where to start with so many things in my life.

The best thing you can do for yourself right now is to get your mind right. With the right mindset, you will be on the road to reaching any goals you have.

What is the right mindset?

The right mindset is one that works with you, not against you. When it comes to fitness, you should kick negativity to the curb. In other words, get out of your way!

Anything holding you back from your goals is rooted in fear. Fear of failure. Whether you’re afraid of embarrassing yourself at the gym, or not succeeding as fast as you’d like: Let. It. Go. (Sing it, if that helps you.) That way of thinking is entirely in your head. Which is GREAT for you and those fitness goals! All that means is it’s entirely in your power to shut it down.

I am constantly reminding myself to stop letting the fear of failure hold me back. Getting out of my own way is exactly what has gotten me where I am today. In the beginning, I was ashamed of my health and figure. The idea of going into a gym and displaying my neglected body scared me. I pushed through those feelings and didn’t let that fear get to me. And you can push through any of those silly ideas holding you back too.

Now that you know where to start, you’re going to wonder how. You could dive right into a full fitness routine. But without a solid foundation, you’ll probably find yourself burnt out and unsure of how your favorite fitness model makes it look so easy.

How they make it look simple is also simple, but easily overlooked by a beginner.

Build a fit foundation

After you get your mind right, you can begin making the baby steps towards your goals. Your water intake and diet should be your immediate priority.

Before you run away because you already know (and aren’t looking forward to) this fundamental aspect of fitness, let me share my story.

When I first decided to be a competitive bikini bodybuilder, I began with a diet. Not in the typical starving-for-weight-loss method, but in the sense of clean eating for nutritional value. And within a week of committing to that diet, I felt incredible. After the initial shock of keeping junk food out of my body, I felt so much better than I had in years. I could finally understand how my #fitspo made exercise look so fun and bearable. Their foundation is on point, and yours should be too.

The key to your fitness foundation

Diet. The diet is more than just limiting your calories. It really comes down to fueling your body for exercise. Make your food work for you, but also…

Drink water. Drink it always. Drink more than you ever thought was possible, and then drink some more. It’s cleansing, and it’s so worth the extra trips to the restroom. You should start drinking water in the place of any soda, juice, or alcohol (not forever, just while you’re getting in the groove). You can thank me later.

Once you have those lined up, you can tackle meal planning that focuses on your short and long term goals.

Before you go, I want to remind you that your journey is yours to create. The only thing standing in your way is yourself, and your big goals are achievable. But you have to work towards the big picture with baby steps. Little goals to reach daily, weekly, monthly, and so on.

And you can do it! And you will love yourself for it!

Still unsure of where to start? If you want some additional guidance and support (notice I didn’t say need), let me know! As I said earlier, this is the place for exactly that. The best part about the fit life is the community. Start by joining our group on Facebook or following us on instagram. I can’t wait to get to know you and help you reach your goals.

Now I want to challenge you. Starting with the fundamentals, I want you to grab yourself a glass of water. You owe it to yourself for the fit lifestyle you are taking on! And as your first step away from a fear of failure, leave me a comment below letting me know your goals for the next week.

Until next post, keep leaving the fashionably fit life!
